We need a revolution because this system is not a system for the people; because even those who are on the favored side are not able to find true fulfillment.

By Talita Soares

We need a revolution.

Not only because we don’t have enough jobs, not only because the public health system is no longer functional. Not only because our politicians are corrupt or because our teachers are not getting paid.

We need a revolution because every single day, every single hour, maybe, a perharps higly-paid, higly-respected office worker blows his brains out with a pistol gun. We need a revolution because of all the rich spoiled teenagers who are right now looking out of their bedroom windows wondering what the hell is the point of it all.

We need a revolution because this system is not a system where people can live the way they are meant to live; because even those who are on the favored side of it are not able to find true fulfillment — this is not a system created by or for the people, but a system created by the untamed power of money alone.

When money loses its human quality, when it no longer serves the people but rather the other way around, we are no longer living in a human reality, but in a distorted one; one that our souls do not recognise and do not know how to cope with.

We need a revolution in order to bring reality back to a level where love and compassion — forces that are naturally inherent to every human being — can regain their original power. In the times we live in, every time a human being speaks from the heart, he or she is making a political statement.

In an interview about the time he spent at the acampada on Plaza Catalunya in Spain, Eduardo Galeano said that the revolutionary quality of the youth riots in Europe came from the enthusiasm they were able to make emerge. Enthusiasm — there is something that mega-corporations will never have any control over.

To hold this enthusiasm through concrete debating and building of new societal structures is what can ultimately be defined as a revolution. When we protest, may it not be the voice of frustration and anger to make our throats vibrate, but the voice of sharp awareness of the pain of the world and the steps we need to take towards its healing — we need to be lucid in our passion, and passionate in our lucidity.

In today’s society, it is safe to say that the feeling of not fitting in has become as universal as human nature itself. There are as many outsiders in this world as there are people, all circling around one empty imaginary “inside”, an absurd fabrication of corporate consumerism.

We are all black sheep trapped in the illusion that everyone else is a white sheep. The new society will be built by no one else but those who simply dare to speak the truth. That is all it takes. Through that we can break out of the imaginary separation we live in. And may it be said again: That is all it takes.

And what’s more, it is also a very good strategy. The system knows how to deal with explosive riots in the streets, terrorist attacks and bank robbings — it is all a part of its dynamics, and it can very easily be turned into marketable, mind-numbing entertainment for the masses.

However, there are moments that retain a certain special quality — a quality that shall be called irreproducibility — that are capable of creating something that is truly unprecedented. Let’s call it something human. This is where we should start working from. Resistance begins in everything that is not appropriate for mass-production — in all authentic, personal experiences.

There are cracks in the system through which light can shine in. Together they form the infinite starry sky. Through connecting those shiny spots, you can form constellations. A group of tiny points of light can be combined to form the picture of a huge mighty lion. Together, they can make one see clearly even in the darkest night.

Every racing heart is a pulsing star! And every time someone looks at the sky with an open heart, a revolutionary is born. It is where it all begins. From the French Revolution to the barricades, a beautiful sky is needed to remind us of where we come from — and where we are going.

Ultimately, that is what brings us to the streets. That is what we are fighting for. A new society is needed in order to give the stars the place that they deserve inside our souls.

When we fight, we are fighting for our lives.

A print version will appear in the Other Reality Magazine.

Really good! Would be better without the picture from the Vancouver hockey riots though :)

It’s not about the riots — it’s about the couple who inadvertently ended up in the middle of it and the girl who got run over by the riot police. I thought their predicament nicely reflected the “authentic personal experience” that Talita spoke about :)

Ashamed of my country, Spain. After Franco’s fascist dictatorship (1939-1975), friend of Hitler and Mussolini; very hard to become a rich country and be part of the “first world”, touching the ceiling during our young XXI century. After several years of economic boom that led to Spain until the eighth or ninth place in the world economy. Since a couple years ago we have gone from that status to seems like a country of the “third world”, angering the population, to the point that in some public schools in Valencia (important city) have no heating, as companies have cut the supply for non-payment. Besides economic drastic cuts in education.
There is public money (our taxes) to rescue the banks in bankruptcy by the incompetence, greed of its leaders and failure of its corrupt economic system. LOL Fictitious money they manage.

Our politicians, like yours, do not represent us. And this feeling is reflected around the world. If we do not agree they send us the police (they are supposed to protect us from abuse), public employes who are paid to take orders, not paid to think. Running the “law” and “order” established by the government whatever, *democracy*, right or left wing dictatorship, religious dictatorships, absolute monarchies or parliamentary, etc.; without meditating whether it is right and correct, like programmed robots or monkeys armed with sticks, who attack us, on this occasion, to peaceful young students, many of them children, not criminals but students requiring less economic cutbacks in education, pillar core of any society. Some, a minority no longer are peaceful when police blow up their noses and blood flows.

We live in a global economic dictatorship disguised as democracy, where the important thing is not people but money and “their” system, of the 1%. They reduce or freeze wages, destroy the middle class, cut social services and destroy jobs, and then sell the idea that to create new jobs should lower the dismissals, labor salaries, etc. (at least in Spain).

Shame of religious institutions, shame of slavery in China, shame of repression in Muslim countries, shame of African and Asian dictators (by the hypocrite appointment of “our” system), shame of the mafia and government corruption in Russia. Ashamed of my country, Spain, shame EU, U.S., their rulers, and the sale of democracy to the banks and corporations. Corporations governed by a bunch of crazy sick, who are so rich that money does not excite them anymore. Excites them play with the destiny of humanity. Causing wars to control energy resources, even at the risk of provoking a third World War (Will China and Russia allow the invasion of Iran and to control Caspian oil by Western countries? Is this too much for them? I don’t know but makes me wonder…).

These corporations buy patents for alternative and clean energy and propulsion systems for transportation, so that no one puts them into practice and ruin their destructive and suicidal environmental business. Meanwhile they built bunkers and celebrate secret rituals in luxurious mansions. These corporations are paying for campaigns of our presidents (and yours) without ideals, puppets of their economic interests and power. Those corporations, owners also of the pharmaceutical industry that create viral mutations, doing great business by selling their vaccines. Owners of the military and weapons industry, the media… inducing fear and phobias agains other religious, cultural and ethnic people, terrorisme… since fear, misinformation and the permanent climate of apocalypse is a powerful weapon to control us. I don’t need to be American, Muslim or Jewish to know that “they” blew up the Twin Towers on 11S, we live in a big lie. Meanwhile, we are entertained with the “circus” of the sport, the reallity shows, the cult of the body, free porn on the internet and much more. Analgesics and antidepressants for a decadent society. This was invented already by the Roman Empire many years ago.

The reality is often more amazing than fiction. This is Matrix, take the red pill and think about what I wrote or take the blue pill and continue your regular life.
If you’ve chosen the red pill, welcome to the Matrix, you have been chosen to change the world or die trying, you’re not alone and every day we are more, this is not only about your country, is all around the world, UTOPIA IS POSSIBLE. Let’s change the world peacefully, YES WE CAN (this is not Obama’s campaing);-) REMEMBER: a violent revolution is a failed revolution.

Felipe, your words are wise, and your intentions powerfull. You elequently structured in your small “essay for humanity”, the main point of where we are at the moment. I am portuguese, and i see the same exact situation happening in a country that has been through the same insane political stratagies of franco, with salazar. And for our depression, or fate, we came out even later from the strings of nationalism, than you did in spain. Yet, the song remains the same. No matter what religion, social stratum, believe of political view you have, this time is the most interesting time in history, because “some of us” are aware of our past, understand our present, and can forsee multiple future possibilities, gift of our creative drastic sharp minds. So i do agree with you, the time is now, and all it takes is honest empathy to recycle our so-called humanity values. Every day we get closer to the utopia of common consciousness. In the streets of your community or in the global highway, we are together and our our struggle must be reflected not only in our words, but mostly in actions and “uber” expressions. Be it in in the endless honest artistic fights, manifests, or actions! We must act constantly, and for once, try to lock out of the mind, the pressure the system implies on us to be “in the line”. We are out of the line for a long time, and they know it. its about time we accept it and march together in paralel lines that will eventually end up in the same destination: The proof of acomplished utopia! We are on the way…;)

Beautyful words, but coming from a place of self enrichment in terms of cash.
I offered to be a (pretty skilled) voluntary, at Tamera, to find out that if you
want to offer your time to enforce this project, you are expected to pay therefor.
Talking about the bads of capitalism, and excluding people from contributing
theyr fascination, strength and time, exempt the ones that can afford to pay…?
Something went wrong with this project, verry verry wrong. Hypocrycy.

I just recently had my rebuilt life of 17+ years conviction free due to tampering/utility theft. Like 10s of thousands of other Americans that have bee effected/Lied to because of the biggest hoax of Human history, and afraid of losing my home, yes I did what I could to make ends meet. This task is not to easy for the uncounted unemployed. This is no snivel. This is anger. Everything is effed up and everything is coming close to being a Felony/Serious crime to get you locked up. More bodies more taxes. Don’t be fooled. Be careful. Be very careful. Be afraid, be very afraid the bastards are after us all. If you think you are safe…..you are dead wrong. Check it. Don’t take my word for it, learn the hard way with a history that NEVER goes away. YES WE NEED A REVOLUTION.,but what we need first is solidarity like this nation has not seen in ages, not since the beginnings of our once great country. Not violence, that’s what they use…No, not this time. We need White, black, and everyone in between that is not Muslim to unite…RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
