Maresi Starzmann was trained as an archaeologist and anthropologist. For five years, she taught at the university level as a postdoctoral researcher and assistant professor. She quit academia in 2016, spent a year working in the New York City art world (New Museum, MoMA, PS1), and has since accepted a position at the New York office of the Germany-based Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.
