Borders & Beyond

A group of migrants in Germany are organizing against the inhumane living conditions imposed upon them. They demand good housing for all — regardless of residence status.

What does it mean to live in a refugee camp? The initial reception center for refugees (LEA) is located in Lörracher Straße in Freiburg im Breisgau, southwestern Germany. Life in the camp is characterized by controls, insecurity and heteronomy.

In this documentary, LEA residents who are campaigning for better living conditions share their experiences and insights of life in the LEA and the violations of their basic rights. It is a snapshot of a social movement in Freiburg, which stands up for a self-determined life and housing and against mass accommodations. They demand good housing for all — regardless of residence status.
