Ashish Kothari

Ashish Kothari is a founding member of Kalpavriksh, an Indian environmental action group, and has been part of several popular movements for ecological and social justice. He helps coordinate an Indian network on development alternatives, Vikalp Sangam, and international dialogue and networking on Radical Ecological Democracy.

He has been on the Boards of Greenpeace International and Greenpeace India, the steering committees of two IUCN Commissions, and several other international and national organizations. He coordinated India’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan process, has been on various government committees to formulate laws and policies, and taught for a decade at the Indian Institute of Public Administration. He has written or edited over 30 publications, and more than 300 articles.
