Praba Pilar

Praba Pilar is a diasporic Colombian artist disrupting the overwhelmingly passive participation in the contemporary “cult of the techno-logic.” Pilar has a PhD in Performance Studies from the University of California at Davis.

Her dissertation, Latin@s Byte Back: Contestational Performance in the TechnoSphere, analyzed the performance projects of US based Latina/o performance artists who resist, contest and oppose the masculinist, racialized and unethical discourses and practices of contemporary techno culture.

Over the last two decades, Pilar has presented counter-narrative projects integrating performance art, street theater, electronic installations, digital works, video, websites and writing that have traveled widely around the world, have been supported through numerous awards and written about in numerous publications.

Shaped by resistance to the colonial project throughout the Americas, Pilar is currently developing “Decolonizing Art Practices” for Aboriginal youth at Urban Shaman Gallery in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
